Hug the Monkey
It may seem shocking or even unbelievable
that love and commitment, one of the most
complex and intense experiences of life,
could be dependent on a single hormone.
But scientists have discovered that oxytocin,
a peptide responsible for hydration and
relaxation, among many other things,
determines whether we'll be able to
experience one of life's deepest emotions.
Hug the Monkey is a companion to my book,
Love Chemistry: How Oxytocin Lets Us Love,
Trust and Mate, to be published in May 2008.
It tracks the latest research and articles
about oxytocin, a natural wonder drug.
The 360
As editor of The 360 from January 2006 to
January 2007, I examined the technology,
business models and interdependencies of
the next generation of internet companies.
Search, online advertising,
consumer-generated and digital content,
software-as-a-service and new devices are
converging to create the next wave of
business and pleasure. The 360 was a daily
diary of this evolution, partly made possible
through the cooperation of Aqute, a
UK-based strategy consultancy company.
